Webmaster: sjdoyle@northerneye.co.uk Optician, the weekly journal for optometrists and dispensing opticians, is conducting its ninth annual survey of refractive surgery clinics in the UK and Ireland to determine the number of clinics currently operating and gather information for our readers on the range of treatments offered. This year, the survey is again simple and easy to complete − all the information requested should be readily available and should take no more than 10 minutes to fill in and return. In order to encourage all clinics to respond, we have again omitted questions that may be commercially sensitive, such as the number of treatments carried out. We have also added new questions to reflect topical issues in refractive surgery, such as seeking your views on the most important factor to consider when choosing a clinic.  As in previous years, the purpose of the survey is to identify and monitor trends in refractive surgery rather than report on individual clinics or companies. The results will be compared with those from previous years and will be published in an article in Optician later this year.  Alongside the results of this year’s survey, Optician will again be publishing a list of clinics in the UK and Ireland which have responded to the survey. Please fill in your contact details at the end of the questionnaire in order to be included (free of charge) in this list. The survey is again being conducted jointly with the British Society for Refractive Surgery, the organisation that represents the interests of ophthalmologists, optometrists and others involved in refractive surgery. The BSRS encourages all clinics and surgeons to participate. The survey is also supported by the Eye Laser Association. Data collection is again being handled by independent research company, NSM Research.
